MASTER still searching ANNOTATIONS ONLY-USE THIS ONE-6.doc
  JAMAR AUDIO!! jamar voice over.mp3
#1  "I Searched for Myself" (after Cosby): just caption, no audio
#2

(around 1:02) New video recording to lead into Jamar in archives: recording of the door to the reading room of the archives so we know he is digging in the archives for this and replace the "offline footage"

THEN, rather than fading into him pulling boxes off shelves move into him reading at table. the back is an awkward place to begin the narrative because few researchers will be allowed in these areas (unfamiliar to rmost researchers)

new video needed. Couldn't find the full original video, so attempted to imporvise.
#3 1:38: missing caption
#4 Need second audio take from Noah that says ". . . a pioneering educator . . ." rather than ". . . a rogue educator" Will need to get a retake, if audio not found.
#5 1:58 class of 1987: image quite grainy again, earlier version from Christina's build appeared much more crisp, I think That is the best quality I have.   It is an old damaged image, we might need to rescan it for a higher quality.
#6 2:10 Rayburn audio comes in too abruptly. Not sure how to fix. Pehraps give music a bit longer and slower fade/lead in before brining in Rayburn audio? Extended it.
#7 2:19: missing caption (and synch pic of bell/brook with "worked his way through ringing the college bell. . . " It is synched.  Changed caption to proper title of "Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn".  I was wondering if you like that.  Not many people know much about House Speakers.
#8 Rayburn, conintued: gave/handshake: would it look better to add some movement to these? they seem up there a little long
#9 4:00--text slide too stretched out. Looks odd. Let me know if you need something else.
#10 4:40--replace audio: ". . . the male students wore . . . " with "The event filled the campus with . . .Gone with the Wind" (see storyboard)
#11 5:26: Can you extend the Black Awareness image more so it overlaps and fades under "Eventually I found them" caption?

I was wondering if it set a nice transitional image if we didn't cross fade the image.  I can, and that woudln't be a problem, but I don't know if it would be better to submerge the image, or allow that image to be the ending point of that section of the video.

audio from tis point through section is too soft. difficult to hear over music
#12 music shift leading to "separate educational facilities" quote is too abrupt. Softer lead in? I found a way to overlap both tracks to allow a better flow.
#13 6:46 (1) remove Moore caption, (2) audio comes in too abruptly removed the caption. If I fade the music, the song sounds awkward.  The transition into the song does allow for the mental transition from kind tranquility, over into the harsh racial tensions.
#14 St. Paul (1) narration too soft, (2) are the st. paul images the best we have avaialble? they seem pretty grainy I rose Noah' s audio.  The image is the best I could find. Its because it is zoomed in, and an old picture.
#15 Bell image missing here (Diversity Now). Try one or the other of these:

I am really liking the first, which I think is from People Magazine on May 14, 1990. If it is and we want a better scan we can do that.

I like the first one, but for tomorrow I will place one of the others.  The reason, is because there is some current issues with Elizabeth Warren as exploiting her ethnicity and possibly not even being American Indian.
#16 8:09, abrupt lead in
other options to consider for this section (though most too long): 4:45-4:55, 10:49-11:15 (several nice sections there)--see original video. What you ahve here works for me, though

#17 Switch current for scan from 1967 yearbook
Sunchai: high quality scan needed from 1967 Locust (scan all available)
#17

9:08: should we move into Carlos's face? Do need a better image for this?

consider following with-- Im not sure if that will work, as it is a very current image.  That would be excellent towards the end though.

In black screen before moving into OH, include scan of cover image

http://issuu.com/phalconstarnews/docs/khnnov152011

9:30: can you overlay an image of a plan landing with "walk off a plane" and him pointing in the same direction

the plane heads? then fade into images of segregated restrooms,

Jennifer: need good images of both segregated signs and plane landing
Also, where relevant, overlay images of a younger carlos
10:15: "I wore, 'East Texas State University" (fade into his jersey again, with that lettering from yearbook photo
10:26: "that key phrase was "texas," (when it gets to "Texas" fade in image of Texas (iconic)

10:32: "represent America. . . " (image of OPHR rights from Track and Field article in 1967,

10:44: " .. . to the capital, (image of state capital building) "walk into a bar to buy a beer" (image of bar)

then image from New

York Magazine or elswhere with someone in stands with sign "why should we run in Mexico only to crawl at home?"

#18 11:00--somehow indicate the person we are talking about is Belford Page
#19

11:07--caption missing (see storyboard)

 See caption page

pls correct caption with video -- S.H.

Also: where is the excerpt that says "I was shocked! I thought every white person loved

them some Belford Page (Oral history? presentation?). Find that and let us look at it for

option to replace "some people didn't like me" excerpt there now

Instead of that, what if we excerpt "My First Taste of Racism" Im going to try that and see what you think.  Then if you don't like it, then you can clarify what you mean.  I wasn't quite sure.

11:30: we will see if we can replace this story told on stage with one told later, on site in the parking lot
12:27: missing end parenthesis on Moore

12:31: the caption is weirdly placed. If you need another image of the Homecoming Queen crowing so you

have a better surface to work with on this go ahead and return to the digital collections and grab a

different one

I found one that was much better.

12:49: Caption "I meant change" on black screen before introducing image of "campus continues to grow" (perhaps link

the latter's arrival with Fiasco's first lyric, ". . . sometimes)

12:56: Include caption--
